Cellar Conversion at Grade 1 Listed Hall

CellarSeal UK.

This cellar conversion was particularly tricky as not only did we have to create an additional bedroom but because it was a listed building, we also had to comply to very strict building regulations. (pic 1)

Firstly, a new window light-well was formed. This is a lovely feature for cellar conversions because as the name suggests, it allows a substantial amount of natural sunlight into the room. It also has to comply to building regulations in that it has to be designed such that it can be used as an alternative means of escape in the case of a fire.

Here, the window light-well is knocked through first to allow access of building materials. Later it is an access for sunlight. (pic 2, 3 and 4)

A Fibre-Clad Waterproof Membrane System was then fitted to the internal cellar walls using watertight compression plugs. (pic 5 and 6)

This was then connected at the base into a sub-floor drainage channel with our CellarPump Water Management System. (pic 7)

After extensive excavation work, a new concrete floor slab was cast complete with integral damp proof membrane and Kingspan floor insulation. (pic 8)

The cellar walls were then lined with Kingspan insulation boards using galvanised steel framework before being plasterboarded and plastered. (pic 9)

Ceiling lights and power points were installed before the final touches of bedroom furniture were fitted. (pic 10)
